On April 3rd 2020, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that Singapore will be taking its biggest step in its fight against COVID-19; a month long “circuit breaker” from 8th April to 4th May.
Many would already know that during this period, Singapore would experience a slow-down of almost every service out there with everyone being ordered to work from home unless in an essential service. Likewise, Footsy will be making some adjustments to the App during this trying time. Together with what Footsy is doing to aid in the fight against COVID-19, we have compiled a list of other things that have been affected within football and sports.
Footsy & football
Under the directives, Footsy will be discontinuing the following features for the duration of the “circuit breaker” or longer if necessary;
Deals – We will be suspending the Deals feature. Any Deal made with any of our merchants prior to this suspension will still be valid unless the merchant has shut its operations. Please contact the merchant directly for more information.
Pitch booking – You will not be able to book a pitch on Footsy as all venues will be closed during this period. If you have already made a booking prior through the App, please contact the venue to make arrangements for the postponement of your booking.
Footsy Buddies – There will be no further Footsy Buddies games in the near future. Do look out for our games when the current restrictions are lifted.
My Tournaments – Please note that all tournaments have been suspended.
According to the Sport Singapore advisory dated 5th of April 2020, gatherings in groups must be avoided. You are therefore not supposed to be playing football under any circumstance with anybody in any group size during this period.
If you HAVE to get your football fix, we recommend taking part in any of the online #stayhome challenges that have been making the rounds on social media. Do remember to tag Footsy to get the community engaged.
Exercising and staying healthy
Under the aforementioned advisory, you are still encouraged to exercise and stay healthy during this period WITHOUT mixing of households. You are advised to do so indoors, with online resources available which offer access to virtual classes and events as well as tips on how to stay healthy at home on the “getactivetv” Facebook page.
If you do wish to exercise outdoors, you are able to do so but please ensure that you maintain safe distancing at all times and only exercise with people of your household. Public parks and 15 open-air ActiveSG stadiums will remain open for the public with strict rules on the use of such spaces. However, you may be denied entry and access to such venues in the event of overcrowding.
Along with stadiums, there are some services that will still be available in ActiveSG sport centres which include fast-food joints, Singapore Post POPStaions and other eateries. For the full list of services, please review the advisory.
Please note that other than what has been mentioned above, all sports facilities will be closed which include all ActiveSG gyms, indoor sports halls, studios, swimming pools and all public-shared sports facilities in schools using the Dual Use Scheme.
We implore everyone to adhere to all government advisories and directives in this fight against COVID-19. The longer we take to adhere to these measures, the longer everyone suffers. United, we will prevail. In the words of Phua Chu Kang, ”Singapore be Steady!”
